                                                                                                                                       August 31, 2015

Dear Students and Families,

Chapter Chat Book Club will meet Tuesday afternoons from 4:15 to 5:00pm in room 17, which is my new classroom!  Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 8, 2015.  The first book we will be reading is, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, by Adam Douglas.  Even though the first book has been picked out, we, as a club, need to talk about what other books we would like to read during the year.  This will take place during the September 8 meeting.  Please bring a list of 3 books that you think our club should read and think about whether or not we should read the first book in a series or all of the books in a series.

At this time, the students will be responsible for obtaining the books.  If the student would like to own the book, you may purchase it from any retailer of your choosing.  Amazon, Books-a-Million and Barnes & Nobel offer used books at discounted prices if purchased on-line.  Books-a-Million and Barnes & Nobel also sell new books (on-line and at the store) and have discount programs available.  Just ask a clerk!  Other ideas for purchasing books are going to Goodwill, Used Bookstores or Friends of the Library (located at all Sarasota County Public Libraries.)  Please know that those stores only sell used books and may not always have the book that your child is looking to read.  If your child only wants to borrow a book, Sarasota County Libraries have an amazing collection of books in print form, audio form and ebook form.  Our school library also has many titles with multiple copies.  Mrs. LaRose and I keep books in our rooms for students to borrow.  Your child is always welcome to borrow the book from us.  There is a $10 a week fee for the club.  Please contact the main office for further information.

This year, book club members will also be members of the SAA Literacy Team! Students and teachers will work together to improve, encourage and promote school wide literacy!

Visit my website for updates on what is going on with Chapter Chat.  I will keep a list of books on the site that we will be reading this year, as well as what the current read is for the club.

If you have questions about the club feel free to call me at school or email me at kgraddy@sarasotaacademyofthearts.com.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Graddy
