3rd-5th Grade Intesive Language Arts

Welcome to Intensive Language Arts for 3rd-5th grade!  This year I will be working with students to strengthen their reading and writing skills.  We will be using the iReady  computer program with the Ready curriculum.  I am very excited by this because the two programs go hand-in-hand!

Students are required to read 20 minutes every night as part of their homework.  For struggling readers, this can be a challenge. As an incentive I have created a reading goal chart in the classroom.  I have posed a goal for each individual student to read 3500 minutes at home.  If the students read 3500 minutes or more, by the end of the school year, they will get a pizza party!  The goal is based on the number of school days, so there is a bit of flexibility because life happens!

He/She will receive a reading log on Monday to fill out for the week and then turn it into me the following Monday.  We will total the minutes that he/she read and document it on our goal board in the classroom for each individual student.

This is a BIG long term goal.  To keep the students motivated there are several short term goals that he/she can meet and receive a surprise bonus.  The short term goals are as follows: 200 minutes; 500 minutes; 1000 minutes; 1500 minutes; and 2500 minutes.

This is an individual goal and students will work at their own pace.  Please encourage them along the way and even to exceed the 3500 minutes.  For each student that completes the goal, he/she will participate in the pizza party at the end of the school year.

Below is the reading log.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
